I’d hope we could rattle through this lot in a few hours, hope you can make it. Directions to Oaklands can be found here: http://oaklands-centre.co.uk/index.php/contact-us/how-to-find-us/
I’ve picked up a report today of some potential loose rock in the chamber with the lower (floor 1, route up to floor 2) in Rhiwbach. Worth touching base with whoever you’re working for on how to manage this area
Happy New Year all,
Towards the end of last year, Ed purchased and put into place the new BAs for Rhiwbach. In all there’s 20 new BAs (10 Small/Medium and 10 Medium/Large). There may be some funding left for some more larger BAs as-well.
All the BAs have been individually numbered and an updated Log Sheet put into the mine. Instructions for the BAs are also in the mine, and a copy on the NorthWalesMines website: https://nwminereports.com/rhiwbach-buoyancy-aids/
All the BAs in the mine were visually inspected today. Frustratingly one of the new BAs was removed as a minor manufacturing fault was spotted. In addition to the new BAs the older BAs were also visually inspected. All were fine, however some of the Medium size Crewsaver Spiral BAs should be monitored as there looks like some wear where the belt is held in place. The older BAs were re-numbered from 21 to 37 (so we have 36 BAs and one XXS, number 25, life jacket in the mine at the time of writing).
The page on the website has been updated.
During use if any BAs are found to have been damaged or faulty could they be removed from the mine. Once removed please let us know which one’s been damaged (there’s a form on the website here: https://nwminereports.com/rhiwbach-buoyancy-aids/) letting us know if it’s repairable (and if you’re going to repair it!!) or if it needs to be written off.
Indivdually numbered with size and date put into use
Individually numbered with size and date put into use
Recruited the rug rat to help!
New BAs as of Oct 2019
Older BAs checked and re-numbered
Hi Gethin hope your well. You may have noticed that the bottom left of the short incline on the walk to Rhiwbach has recently deterioted. The loose rocks and debris there is now gone as of today. I removed it (well pushed it all off). As it was, it was a hazard, as someone might of accidentally stepped on it and come of badly. Just letting you know in case you want to tell people in case they panic its falling down on its own. Andy
Just a quick heads up that there’s some work going on on the footpaths around Rhiwbach over the next 3 weeks (so into early Sept). Access along the footpaths will remain, however there will be heavy(ish) machinery moving up and down the paths so please be aware and considerate!
We really need to make a decision on the BAs in Rhiwbach if we want to purchase a batch with this years inspection reports fees to those who use Rhiwbach.
There are several options within the mine, and have been for a few months. We also need to decide how many to purchase. Its been suggested we retain at least 20 BAs in the mine. We could either purchase 10 this year and 10 next year (to stagger the cost and wear), or go all out for 20 this year.
Could you ask staff to have a look and let us know by Friday this week?
Thanks to everyone that came along to the users meeting. A summary of what was discussed and decided can be dowloaded from a password protected link. All those who buy into the scheme have been provided a direct link, however for those who can’t get access, get in touch and I’ll pass on the password.
