Over the years we’ve been monitoring the timber supports between floors 2 & 3 in the mine. Although the supports don’t appear to have moved they are showing signs of deterioration and so in 2016 it was decided something should be done to make sure we don’t loose this important route through the mine.
A significant amount of steel has been purchased, carried up into the mine and assembled in place. Once assembled teams have been busy filling the gaps between the roof and walls with rock so that if there was any movement above it would rest on the steel.
This has been one of the most significant projects within the mines, and thanks must go out to all those involved in the works.
